Your pups are growing rapidly! Their weight will increase more than 50% over the next two months, so they need all the food that you can provide. Unfortunately, elk and other prey are now at peak vitality after grazing on nutritious grasses all summer.

This means that you have a tough stretch ahead of you. Try to keep your pups from starving, or succumbing to sickness when weak from hunger. But don't expect to keep them all alive. This is the most deadly season for pups.

TIPS

Your growing pups will be hungry almost all the time. Keep the food coming! But despite your best efforts, some are likely to starve or fall sick and die.

Your pups are gaining independence and may wander farther at time. Nevertheless, be sure to give your pups plenty of freedom so they can improve their hunting skills and gain XP. Soon they’ll graduate from toads and voles to Uinta ground squirrels (which offer twice as much food). And they’ll need those skills soon enough for the next quest.

Completing the Quest

Once you reach the end of September, pup growth slows, and prey animals are past their late summer peak of health. Most importantly, pups are now ready to abandon the rendezvous site and become Young Hunters!
